Visual Perceptual Skills Addressed:

Spatial Relationships

Spatial Relationships perception is the ability to identify the position of two or more visual stimuli in relation to oneself and/or in relation to each other.

In the “Dot Symmetry Designs (4x4)” worksheets, the student must analyze the position of the dots, and identify how the lines relate to each other. They must then pinpoint the corresponding dots that need to be joined on the other side of the line.

Visual Closure

Visual Closure is the ability to recognize any given visual stimulus from an incomplete presentation (part of the stimulus is missing). The ability to identify what we are seeing without having to analyze every detail enables us to process information in our environment quickly.

In the “Dot Symmetry Designs (4x4)” worksheets, the student must mentally fill in the missing part of the design (picture what must be drawn in to complete the mirror image).

Visual Motor Integration

Visual Motor Integration relates to the coordination of visual perceptual skills with body movement (the use of visual information to guide a motor task). For fine motor tasks, the eyes inform the arm and hand muscles where to go like "follow the leader”, so that motor output matches visual input.

In the “Dot Symmetry Designs (4x4)” worksheets, the student's eyes must guide their hand to in order to fill in the missing parts in the design in a fluid and controlled manner.
